I’m so beat down by the last couple of years i didn’t stay up. Plus the puppies wake up at asshole thirty and don’t go back to sleep.

That said - happy new year friends!

We watched “Dances With Wolves” since our sons have never seen it. Then went to bed. We haven’t stayed up til midnight on NYE since the turn of the millennium.

Sounds like our house watching the excruciatingly horrible YouTube live feed of Times Square was somehow actually the BETTER decision.

These people have lost the ability to know how to entertain anybody, it’s fucking pathetic.

My wife and I planned to take a nap at 10 and then wake up for the ball drop. We didn’t wake up until 5 this morning.

My sister got coffee in a park with a friend. That friend tested positive. My sister exposed my brother and my parents, particularly my mom who had pneumonia 3 weeks ago. They all just tested negative. My daughter had a fever last night so now we have to get her tested.

Bourbon overcame my misgivings and we were at the neighbors until about 2 am. I probably went to bed around 3. A typical party with the neighbors around here. Now I wait to see what viral party favors I brought home.

2022 is going to likely be rough for my family, and I think all of us (my siblings, husband, and grown kids) are kind of feeling a level of resignation about it.
That’s the only explanation I have for the funky mood I’m in this morning.

I want to have some optimism and positive outlook but maybe after a couple glasses of champagne I’ll find it.

We took the kids to our local brewery hangout where they had a family friendly countdown at 7. Left right after that to avoid all the amateur hour stuff, went home, took an edible and was in bed by 10:30. Woke up at midnight when some jack-hole in our neighborhood thought it was the 4th of July and then went right back to bed.

Today, we're having the traditional pork, sauerkraut, potatoes and whatever else people end up bringing over to the house while watching football all day.

Slow news cycle, I guess. Nothing to add to the serious threads.

I'm looking forward to the day when we all get so jaded to shit that we all stop commenting on it even though it hasn't changed.

Time is a flat circle. If you missed the chance to comment on it the first time, your turn will come around again!

I spent a couple hours yesterday working on the next book. Then I spent a couple more hours playing Empire Earth, an real time strategy game I used to play years ago. Our son set up my Mac to run PC games and we’d hoped we’d be able to play each other online. So far that hasn’t worked for some reason.

I walked the dog, albeit slower than usual, and then did a half assed cleaning of our goats’ shed. It’ll do til I’m feeling better and don’t get so easily winded.

It rained all night here, and I had a flashback to rainy season when I lived in Bali. You'd open all the windows, play some "lofi chill beats" and spend the day reading a book, sleeping, fucking, and generally doing as little as possible.

I had one of those nights, minus the fucking, and it was spectacular. The nostalgia got me in the feels a bit, but it was an awesome disconnect kind of evening.

It's currently 32* here. Fuck this shit.

Local bar does a British New Year's at 4PM so we met some friends* there and rang in the New Year early. Didn't plan on staying out late but then bumped into some boating friends and ended up back at our place until 1AM. Yesterday I didn't do jack shit. Binged watched 1.5 seasons of Succession. Which is awesome btw.

*We've known these friends for quite a while. After a couple hours, his wife took their kids home and the husband stayed out with us for a bit. He got pretty drunk and while I was getting a refill, he told my wife that he liked her. She replied with something light trying brush it off and he leaned closer and said "No, I really like you" so now I have to deal with that.

Been inside but keeping pretty busy. All the Christmas decor has been taken down and boxed up.

Ive also been reading a lot about growing mushrooms since I got a kit for Christmas, and also reading about succulents since I have some that need to be repotted and set up inside in a better way for winter. Going to start some baby bok too.

    So basically indoor gardening.

I was in bed at 10:00 NYE. I think I took a nap that day too.

Does anyone have any new year's resolutions?
