A neighbor down the street has a pair of St Bernards that lose their shit at every person walking past the house. They stand up on the windows. I can hear their claws on the glass and the glass visibly shakes. I wonder how long before the worst happens.
We have a JW church in our neighborhood. Jungle Julia put up a sign on our gate that this was a Catholic household (she is, not me), and it still didn't stop them for a while. We've been here long enough that they know not to try our house anymore.
I had some JWs come to my house during college, and were trying to convince me God was real because of some (very misconstrued) statements by Einstein. I simply replied "but Einstein was a Jew" and this revelation so befuddled them that they left.
Our neighbors growing up were JW. They met with my dad, who knows the Bible well enough that he schooled them and they stopped trying. Just bringing up disfellowship to JW, or excommunication to LDS, is a good nail in the coffin. If they think you’re an apostate then they find you irredeemable - and worse, a legitimate threat to their own faith.
Since this the fight WDT, I really hope Stipe beats Jones tonight. Who's with me? I'm not buying PPV, though. I'll wait for highlights to get posted.
Try telling any Christian zealot that Jesus was a Jew. It blows their fucking minds. Anyway, Hunter S. Thompson had a really great quote about how crooked professional boxing was in the '80s, but I'll have to look it up. I really wish that we could hear his takes on current events.
He’s been a piece of shit for almost his entire career, right after he won the LH title. It sucks to actively root against him and he never loses, like I do. The guy is—objectively— a bad fucking person and I don’t know why he still has fans..
What do you guys think about the accusations that Mike threw the fight? The difference between him in training and the apparent restraint during the fight seems pretty stark.
I do not think a person becomes a Heavyweight Champion by having any kind of mindset to throw a fight for any reason. I do think that training to fight at 61 and going into a ring and actually fighting someone 30 plus years your junior who has at least some skills and reach advantage are two different challenges. I can go out and shoot baskets and play horse with younger kids, but in a real game I am just a chicane to have to get around.
Remember the fight was originally supposed to take place in July, but Tyson had a significant medical issue. At the time it was reported he had an ulcer. He supposedly lost 25lbs and had multiple blood transfusions. That alone explains to me why he looked so gassed almost as soon as the fight began. I'm honestly surprised it wasn't delayed a full year if his medical issues were as bad as stated...five months isn't really enough time to recover from that for a fight.
Tyson got in that ring for money. He posted those videos and hyped the fight for money. He slapped Jake Paul at weigh-ins to further hype that fight for money. It wasn't the outcome most people our age wanted, but looks like Tyson may have tripled his net worth that night. His performance was respectable, I think, there is probably a billion people younger and healthier than him that couldn't have gotten in that ring with Jake Paul and lasted thru the final round. I still think Jake would struggle against many pro boxers of similar age and weight class as him.
Tyson look tired from the get-go. Compared to how he looked in his prime, he was in good shape but it just wasn't enough. I was more intimidated by the chick doing a Haka at her parliament meeting like a weirdo.
