One of the things I miss about traveling up and down the east coast by boat, the prime rib of Coinjock Marina. Then passing out with a full belly and waking up super early, usually in frigid temps, and knocking out another 60 miles of ICW, north or south, depending on the time of year. Never been by car, just pass it on boat deliveries several times a year.

You should be able to go to their website/app/whatever ( I don’t know, my wife does it. ) and put in that you’ll be there in a set time. Then walk in and tell them you’re there. Kind of like making reservations I guess. We usually don’t have to wait long, if at all.

I made cheesy baguettes tonight. You slice most of the way through a baguette (like a hasselback potato) and then tuck in thin slices of cheese/prosciutto/apples/whatever you want, and then brush the whole thing with herb butter and bake it until it's crispy and melty. The slices of cheese and stuff cause the baguette to curve a little and look kind of like a snake, so naturally in our house they're referred to as cheese snakes.

    I <3 cheese + carbs

Of the “big five” HBO Shows that basically created the second golden age of television, four out of the five of them- The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire and Deadwood were incredible and still are. However, the first show, the one that started it all— Oz, has aged like bread. Have you tried to watch it since all this other tv has gone past us; it’s so fucking stupid.

When it debuted, my 20-year-old self was blown away. It’s like “Whaaaat? This is so viscous and mean and hardcore. They just kill off main characters and censor NOTHING!” It seemed so incredible for its time and now when I go back just plays off as so dumb and incredibly unrealistic. The amount of actors who used the show as a catalyst to help kick off their career is incredible, though.

Oz always felt underbaked. It had good ideas, and threw off a lot of shackles of network TV, but it just wasn't coherent on the whole. I tried a rewatch last year and couldn't stick with it, because of how absurd elements of it were.

What is the point of the whole “experiment” with Emerald City? “Okay, we’ll have this one section that has glass instead of bars, we will allow five pounds of heroin to traffic through it DAILY, and for some reason we’ll make it REALLY easy for old men in fishing gear to tunnel out of it. But no cigarettes allowed.”

And it'll be run by the most incompetent prison administrator in America, who is somehow irresistible to women despite being a 4 in looks and a 2 in personality. Despite a multitude of murders occurring under his watch, we will continue to ask him to house serial killers, mafiosos, white supremacists, and the Allstate Mayhem Man, in his free-for-all lovefest of total lack of accountability.

Oz was fun in that Soap Opera way but also bad in that Soap Opera way. There was like two deaths episode. Worst prison ever.

Crazy how the guy playing the aryan brotherhood leader was the most talented wide ranging actor on the show. It was always sad to me that Christopher Meloni has stuck to tv acting and bit parts. He should have been a leading man.

Agreed. Meloni is crazy-talented as an actor and deserved better fame. I wish Happy! was a bigger success because it was an awesome show and a perfect role for him.

Who is tuning into the Superbowl today?

I got a party invite, so I will be watching some part of it.

We have a betting pool for the game. Something about guessing the last number of the score. I don't know anything. Here's $10 to the pool. I do not think the pool will be giving back to me today.

We’re having some folks over as usual, a bunch of my good friends and some of their kids (young adults is more like it).

This is a family friendly event, nothing at all like Garage Night. No lasers, no fog, nothing stronger than red wine and beer. Looking forward to spending the evening with some of my closest and oldest friends.

I'm not... just not my thing. It's 90% commercials, and Canadian commercials at that...

    Oh God, so many commercials.

I kind of swore off football after working in a sports bar. I was just over it.

But, this is a great group of folks. I'm really enjoying this even if I can't tell what the fuck these ref calls are.

I learned a new term. Tushy push!

Always a good excuse to have friends over. This year I didn’t, so no desire to tolerate/watch the game.

    Enjoy!

My five year old wanted to watch the game so we turned it on. He passed out a few minutes ago, & I've already moved on to something else
