My kids’ daycare did it on Friday. I’m not dragging my 1-year-old around the neighborhood past his bedtime.
Twitter hasn’t changed. People who give a shit about Elon owning it are just getting the results from the echo chamber that it is.
Case in point: The former CEO, specifically, allowing the Ayatollah to tweet blatant anti-semitism in perpetuity.
Having a blue checkmark is going to cost $20/month soon, and you know that the people who hate Musk the most will pay up, because that blue checkmark is among their fondest possessions.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA $20 a month for literally nothing. That is brilliant. BRILLIANT. All of those fucks completely obsessed with their fake online personality are going to shove money into the pockets of The Enemy. This really is a perfect world that we live in.
Someone made the point that this turns the checkmark from an "I'm noteworthy" badge into an "I got hustled" badge. The deployment of the Lord Farquad meme will be instant. It's like when they introduced NFT profile pictures and people immediately responded with "hexagon profile picture, opinion invalid" to anyone who had one. There's no way even a fraction of current blue checks will pay for Twitter blue. Hell, some current Twitter blue subscribers will drop it just to not have the blue check of shame.
Probably not, but then again, it doesn’t mean much anyway. Maybe they’ll go to the Metaverse where it’s safe. I hear they have the Eiffel Tower now.
Musk has lowered his offer of $20/mo for a blue check to $8/mo. Don’t think he’s thought this one through
We are getting to watch in real time what goes through an autist’s brain when they realize they overpaid for something and are trying to keep it from sinking them financially.
I don't really care one way or the other. But, aren't there more Twitter users without blue checks than with? Like, I don't have a blue check, because I'm nobody. But, is it worth $8 to cut the ads in half, and limit spam? Well, no, not for me, lol. But, I bet a lot of people that actually use Twitter a lot would take that.
I think it's not a bad case to make. Just under a hundred bucks? Until now, the blue check is really just for the popular to ensure that people know they were talking to "the real deal". Pay-to-play accounts to reduce _visible_ spam is really legit. Having a setting for "only paid accounts" is all win.
call it that then. People pay for that feature on Reddit too. But if everyone is “verified,” then no one is verified. Of course, I’m sure it’ll take no time once this feature is rolled out for someone to pay to verify “therealelonmusk” or something like that
Oh, I'm thinking you just separate the paid vs. verified. You have to be paid to be verified, but you aren't auto verified by being paid.
that would make sense. His big issue right now is obviously the whole “free speech” vs advertising thing. Looks like he’s searching for other revenue streams wherever he can find them. He’s gonna encounter some massive issues when he realizes other countries don’t play by the same rules though. I think Stephen King had a point though when he told Musk that he should pay him (King) to be on Twitter, as King doesn’t need Twitter but he brings more value to the platform simply by being there. After King said — I’m summarizing — now way I’m paying that, you should pay me to be here, musk said “how about $8 then?” when a service is free, the users are the product. I get that. But turning Twitter into a hybrid of pay/still have ads for revenue is gonna be a clusterfuck. I’m just grabbing my popcorn as it goes up in flames.
Paying customers would be verified in that Twitter has their billing details which ties the account to a real person. Impersonating someone else is already against their rules. They even require parody accounts to explicitly include the word "parody" in their profile. Youtube premium seems to be working pretty well.
