    Y’all.
It turns out that after we do some fills of air into my temp balloon titties I can make them glow using a bright flashlight.

I’ll post pics. But I’m oddly excited about doing this.

    Do they play music?

Or, maybe this scene is more appropriate

Either way, we're here for you in your healing.

    No music BUT they’re magnetic!

And I just tried the flashlight thing and it works - so after a couple of fills I’ll try again and get good pics. This is bizarre. And cool. And part of my silver lining I guess.

I feel like the 2001 Space Odyssey song (Also Spake Zarathustra) should be playing as they light up.

This reminded me that 25 years ago today I was 4 weeks into a 6 week work assignment on the northern coast of Alaska. Barrow, Cape Lisburne, Oliktok, Point Lonely, Wainwright- all native towns where DEW line (Distant Early Warning) radar stations are located.

No cold weather drinks for us - the North Slope is mostly dry. Northern lights, caribou, brown bears, polar bears, musk ox, whales, arctic foxes, all wandering around us while we worked. That was an amazing experience.

My dad managed something like 13 DEW line stations. He had a picture of a polar bear poking it's head into one of the dorm windows.

    That's fucking nuts.

I used to have a black bear hide that dad brought back from AK. Apparently it was cross eyed and pretty much retarded, so the crew would feed it. Then the other bears started attacking it, so dad shot it and I had it taxidermied into a rug. The dude couldn't make it cross eyed, which kind of bummed me out.

We saw polar bears four times up there, including one lounging on an iceberg in full view while we took a very brief dip in the Chuckchi Sea, and one that stalked us. That’s why we had armed spotters with us.

About two weeks after I was up there, one of the guys we met was mauled by a polar bear that peeked in a window and decided to smash through it into the building.

    w00t!

I already have a high end, investment grade PSA 7 of this card. But I've grown tired of the investment grade cards....this is a hobby. I started putting together a set of 1962's that I don't feel bad having in binder pages and that I can enjoy looking at. I picked up the #1 card in the set ungraded, Roger Maris, with the stat line of his 61 HR's the previous year. With shipping I got it for $40 and change for a solid card. I'm thrilled.

    Did they name it "Gladly”?

You know, like the old hymn, "Gladly, the Cross-eyed Bear."

Heh. Yes they did. I'm almost surprised someone else knows that reference.

EDIT: I always thought it was "Glady", apparently it is "Gladly" and I had no idea it was a hymn.

    Love watching videos like that.

Have to say, I've never seen anyone use a bottle jack logging before... makes sense.

And to think that falling the tree is the easy part. Requires the most skill, but is by far the easiest part... which is why a good faller never has to run a choker line in the field.

No shit. I've spent the morning inside in the AC, and thought, "hmmm... it's chilly... I should go and cut the grass before the next few days of rain hit us..."

    Fucking hell.

Spent 10 mins cutting the front grass, then had enough of that shit... the back yard can go to seed for all I care right now.

Now it's time to sit in the nice, cold office, watch YouTube videos, and drink.

    I'm OK with that.

Really reaping the rewards of the garden right now... so many tomatoes, cucumbers, etc, that my go-to lunch right now is a bunch of tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, garlic, avacado, jalapenos, all sliced up and mixed with some fresh basil, olive oil, and some of the new hot sauce that I've recently picked up. Mix it all up and go to town... fucking hell, is it delicious.

Same here today, but I had to get the mowing done and hang out with the new baby goats for much of the day, make sure they settled in okay. Was soaking wet when I came inside.

Plus it's been so wet here this Summer, rhe fucking mosquitos seem to attack in swarms. I can't wait for cooler weather.

    I took a nap.

In other news, this is a very cool video about a recent Launch Pad Tour that just launched the Solar Probe.
