Why? The shelves are already partially stocked and they're understaffed. It's just going to be like any other day.
It's the South, it only snows once a year on average where I live. People lose their shit and stock up like they won't be able to leave the house for weeks.
I don’t understand the narrative of bare shelves and massive shortages. Maybe because I live in a blue state, but there’s plenty of everything. More than plenty. There are spaces in shelves here and there but there’s plenty of everything. it’s like shit was in the 70s. Not an obscene amount of everything, but abundant choices and nothing unavailable.
Oh, I wasn't trying to do a narrative. That's how the grocery stores are here. Any particular week there are no pickles, or tomato soup, or paper towels, or . . . something. Then, there are photocopied signs on all the doors and scattered around that say something like "due to staffing shortages, we are not able to stock all areas. We apologize for any inconvenience." That was at Kroger and Publix had a similar sign. Every store, fast food place, dentist office has a "now hiring sign." I stopped by the Dollar General last week because it's near my office, to grab a Coke and candy bar. The manager was locking the door and going home. They didn't have staff to stay open. It was 4pm on a Thursday. Several of the fast food places are drive-thru only, because they don't have enough staff. I traveled to Alabama on Monday, and it was the same way. If that is not happening in your neck of the woods, that's great!
I didn’t mean you and your experience in particular. I just meant that I don’t see that around here. It’s definitely a result of living near major New York and New Jersey ports and having a large enough population that someone is always stocking something. #highpopulationdensityprivaledge
I went to Trader Joe’s the other day and it was annihilated. I checked the weather, no big snow storms coming up. So I asked one of the employees of people were wigging out about omicron or something. Nope, the students just got back into town. Duh. It’s like I haven’t lived in a college town for most of my life.
