...did you miss something, or did I miss something? @GTE said he'd rather have 111 degrees than 58. I'm saying one of those can actually kill you, and it's not 58.
Man, I remember when TiB meant boobs and alcohol. Now a buncha old fuckers are arguing about the weather.
In other news, I just came in from pressure washing the driveway. For those of you keeping score, the weather was awesome.
I don't think you guys understand the level of pure hatred that we have for cold weather. Our pool is at 84* right now and that felt too cold to get in this last weekend. I haven't been to the snow in almost 25 years and I don't see that changing anytime soon. We keep our AC around 79-80*. My wife actually likes it closer to 82*. Obviously 111* is extreme but given the choice, I'd rather the temps be too hot than too cold.
Or you could bring the first batch of pickled eggs you’ve made in 18 months down to your bar, and enjoy a few of them and a cold beer with the regulars. #suspiciouslyspecific
@toytoy88 You should move up to the mid-state NY area if you are looking for the midwest farmhouse, but with decent temperatures type of living. I'm a little too far north, but places like Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Liberty, Middletown would probably be up your alley. Everything north of West Chester county is pretty much the midwest in NY State.
I hadn't thought of that. A little looking and there are possibilities. While not a farm house, this is cool and reasonably priced at $57K. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah, places like that are a dime a dozen up here. You could definitely find a nice 2-3 bedroom farmhouse in the 60-90k range that needs a little cosmetic work on a decent piece of land.
This board is beginning to show its age. Two and a half pages talking about the weather. Sounds like a goddamn Tim Hortons in here.
In most places up here, $1000 a month, maybe $1200 if it's a REALLY nice house and has been updated fully.
Still fits into the 1% rule. Better than CA where you buy a house for $500k and try to rent it for $2500
@toytoy88 Not to jam up the thread, but here are some links to places that might be in your range of what you are looking for. I know most of these areas and they are your typical rural type towns. Thanks. I've got to say one definitely piqued my interest. At $50K I could do things with this one: I'll have to check into it, but $1500 a year taxes do seem a bit excessive.
That looks like a two unit place toytoy and to my untrained eye about $100,000 on the foundation, electric, plumbing, roof, insulation and windows before you even start on the cosmetics. Then they will come in and reassess the property and have a nice increase to the property tax.
Sadly in NY you have to pay state, local, and school taxes so they are sometimes pretty high in comparison to other parts of the country. It's like the biggest beef people not in NYC have with living in the state.
