I did three racks of baby backs on the Egg once and for whatever reason one rack was just burnt on the bottom. No fixing them, just straight into the trash.
I don't mind protein on the dryer/well-cooked side... so it wasn't bad in small doses... but it was not the juicy feast of ribs I was expecting to pig out on.
Did you remove the silver skin/membrane from all of them? I've had that issue when I've forgotten to do so.
Hiked 4 days straight. About 50 miles, 18k feet of elevation, scrambled 4 summits. My culinary experience tonight consists of wolfing down a bowl of leftover pasta, currently I am stuffing chips into my face, and I have a pint of ice cream waiting in the freezer. Give me all the calories. I'll eat the jerky ribs.
OH... I ate them... have no fear. They were just not what "normal" people look for when they order ribs.
Just got back from a weekend up north on Lake Michigan. I was reminded yet again that there is no such thing as vacation with a toddler, just parenting in new and uniquely challenging situations. That being said, the 3 year old maniac had the best weekend ever and it was pretty fun to witness. I survived my first 100% sober vacation with my extended in-laws and I am dead set on going to bed by 9:30 tonight. Really feeling the “advanced” part of advanced maternal age right now. Oh and I only got 3 annoying emails from work this weekend. Happy Labor Day?
I was just about to post that I fucked mine up, too. I overfilled the thing to start. It got super extra hot in the back and my little bites of pork were lumps of charcoal. The chicken drumsticks were okay, though. I wonder if my traeger is big enough for a turkey. Hmm...
If you do decide to go that method, a great side is a blue corn-flour waffle. You can find a lot of good recipes for them by just googling for blue waffles.
It was ~10 years ago so I could be wrong but I think I did. @Binary My cousin recently summited Mt Whitney. He was showing my pics yesterday and it looked pretty intense. Not sure how it compares to your summits but kudos regardless. That's awesome.
We don't have a "General Sports" thread or "NCAA Football" thread, so I'll just put this here: On ESPN.com's main page, under "top headlines" it says "BC Stuns Florida St." Stuns? Really? Georgia Tech beat them in week 1. Georgia Tech! Was anybody stunned by that loss to BC? It was delightful, I know that.
Whitney is supposed to be a great hike. We haven't done it because dogs aren't allowed and when we were out there, we didn't have a way to get someone to walk the pup while we were gone for ~12+ hours. I kinda quit posting pictures after that idiot CanisDipshitus took some and started posting them elsewhere, but what the hell. A few shots from yesterday's scramble up Emerald Peak. Spoiler: Large photos
Man, I feel that. Took our son to Maine last week to meet his grandfather. At 9 months, he is young enough that he can’t voice his displeasure. Flying wasn’t nearly as bad as we expected. But it wasn’t really a vacation like it used to be. But I can’t wait until he’s old enough for the swimming and actually remembering the sights. I just shudder at the thought of him being as loud as the toddlers on the flights.
That’s funny, the first flight we took ours on was to Maine last summer. He also did surprisingly well on the flight (with the exception of landing) but mostly he was too excited to be on the plane to be upset. The 5 hour drive was surprisingly brutal since he stopped napping and we didn’t get any reprieve.
Traveling with toddlers and children was rough as I remember. Nowhere near as rough as last January when a son and I drove 5 hours with a kitten to deliver to yet a different son. That poor thing started howling as soon as we left the driveway and did not let up for the entire trip. It all turned out ok, as soon as she got to her new home and discovered my son' cat all was good and they absolutely love each other now. My cat delivery days however are over.
First trip with our daughter on a plane, she was two and we flew to London from Boston. We cashed in points for business class. 5 minutes into the flight she splashed a glass of red wine all over the wall and window. Then she had a blow-out. Good times. On the other hand my daughter did fine, though.
