Texas never seems to be prepared for anything except roving gangs of liberals. They never learn their lesson either. After Harvey, they didn’t do shit about flood control. We have plenty of blankets and hoodies and jackets. Enough food.
i tried to upload the video but it wouldn’t work so I just used a screenshot. About a foot of snow here, so naturally I fired up the John Deere, tied a rope to the hitch and told my wife to get the sled. you know it’s a bad idea when your 3 year old says “mommy daddy don’t hurt yourselves!!”
I measured with a stick, 13''. I'm sure there's some meltdown and compaction over the last 3 days but that's the official backyard number for now. It is still snowing....
I came very close to buying a kerosene heater a couple of weeks ago, as heat during an extended power outage in the winter is the only thing I can think of that I'm not fairly well prepared for, but I really hate the things and I don't like the idea of having several gallons of kerosene in the house.
I really want to get a wood or pellet or combo stove for the downstairs. There may have been one there in the past, there's a hole in the wall with a cap that connects to the chimney. I'm thinking I need to look in the off season, though...
We used to do that with my friend's Jeep. The trick is to build ramps into the snow banks and fling the sled at them while the car turns.
I always have one of these on hand. It has a low oxygen shut off and will heat a large area. I've had to rely on it more than once during extended winter outages, easily one of the best things I've ever bought.
Meanwhile here in Michigan, I called patients to see if they wanted to switch to telemedicine visits tomorrow because 12+ inches of snow in 24 hours and they were all like “Nah, I’d rather come in!” The first patient of the day is in her 70s and the appointment is scheduled to discuss “multiple falls”.....
Did you guys know Texas has its own power grid so it didn’t have to deal with any regulations? Funny how that works sometimes.
Bunch of people are shitting on "green energy" due to these blackouts. Meanwhile nuclear and solar are the only energy generation in Texas operating at 100% right now.
my solar lights have the place lit up like a Christmas tree. Turned one toward the pump house just in case I needed to check on it at night. I’m quite content right now. we have at least a foot of snow in most parts, more in others. Not supposed to get above freezing at night until the weekend, and barely above freezing during the days if that. Anyone who is fucked right now, is about to be REALLY fucked once their caldo and tamales run out.
man people got some nerve on them. Don't give a shit the few weeks you're getting the shit kicked out of you by covid, your wife working her ass off to hold the house together just to make sure your young boys don't notice daddy is praying for death in the next room. Don't even offer to help, not even a text check in. Yet the SECOND power goes out, it's "hey we heard your house is warmer, can we come stay with you? But oh I don't trust the roads so you need to come pick us up." lol go fuck yourself "We need groceries though." "Yeah well how do you have water and we don't?" Well, dumbass, I fucking worked to keep it on, running around outdoors all day laboring for breath because of that covid you didn't care about. Now go melt that snow on the propane grill I gave you and toughen up buttercup. Dwight was right. We need a new plague. Covid didn't get enough of them. And not to get too political, but it's several of my family members doing this. And they're all the exact same jackholes who told me I needed to buy more (MOAR!!!) guns "just in case." You what I have not needed these last few days? A fucking gun. My tools have come in real handy though. As does my workshop and a little bit of common sense. Get off facebook and learn a trade snowflake.
