Looks like Reddit started going dark. Of all of the subs’ protest nonsense over the years, this one actually makes sense.
Yes, ice wine can be fantastic. I’ve had a range of quality, from poorly executed varieties that treat it as a gimmick to excellent ice wine, which, unsurprisingly, can be very expensive. Whats going on at Reddit? I haven’t heard anything about it. /s
If you like port or sweeter/fruity wines, you might love it. It really doesn't track to my taste in wine. I've tried a number of them and they're always interesting but not something I'd buy a bottle of. But as @Misanthropic said, there's a pretty big variety in grapes and quality so it's worth keeping an open mind even if you don't like the first one you try.
I love a ruby port. The friend telling me about ice wines is from Buffalo. Apparently there is a big white wine industry in that region on the Canadian side. When I read that linked wiki article, it says you can create ice wine from red or white grapes, but many shown on the page were from white grapes. I don't know if that's more common overall, or if the ice wine in that region is so big that is skews the ratio is available goods. In general I'm not a white wine drinker, but I'd sure love to try an ice wine of any color.
@bewildered I've had red and white ice wines. I'm not sure if something about white grapes tend to lend themselves to ice wines. White grapes tolerate more regions so you can reasonably grow them in a place like central Canada, so that probably helps. I've actually tried more red ones than white. The red ice wines I've tried have been so fruity and sweet that they're almost alcoholic juice but with more sophistication. They're kinda fun to try - but more something that I'd like to have a half glass of once in a while than something I'd buy in bottles. But I feel the same way about port. I still really like wine but since my partner has stopped being able to have more than a small glass at a time, I don't drink a lot of it anymore. Just not enough nights where I'll crush most of a bottle myself.
If you like ice wines and like port, you should try this. Sparkling Red Wine I haven't tried the other two varieties, but the sparkling red is really good. It goes great with heavy meals like steak or a pasta with ragu, but also is light enough to just enjoy on the porch on a hot summer afternoon.
My wife and I have had 3 bottles of ice wine in our fridge since Christmas. Neither of us have ver had it. Maybe we’ll crack one open.
Absolutely. As to ice wine, I find it something to enjoy a shot or two at a time occasionally, not something you want to get drunk from.
I was really pleasantly surprised by how nice a light red wine with the bubbles was. Ice wine is liquid gummi bears. Yes please, all day, every day.
Cold Prosecco at the beach on a hot day is the tits. Agreed on ice wine- it’s interesting, different and can be quite good, but I can’t imagine getting drunk on it. It’s just too sweet for that.
Had a hell of a night last night. Bear country. One was trying to break into the back of my truck after some garbage, and Zoe turned into a beast and chased it off. She was gone barking off into the distance for about 15 minutes. A long 15 minutes. It freaked me out…. I thought she was gone and I’d have to go on the search for her. But low and behold, she showed up at the airstream door wagging her tail. She ate steak last night.
I had a summer job work for DFO(department of fisheries and oceans) this week were in the middle of no where fixing a fish gate. My boss had a German shepherd and he was just wondering around. Then about 200m's up river some grizzlies came out of the bush for fish. Well this dog started running up river and barking. My boss was yelling at the dog to come back, eventually did. Grizzlies were unfazed.
Black bears are for the most part chicken shits. Scare very easily. I have come across a mom and cubs on my mountain bike and they just run off.
