I live/work on the IA border; during Covid I heard rumors of farmers doing the same, but pit burning any they couldn't sell. Like 50-60 hogs at the bottom of a ravine, and then just buried. That's like hitting the jackpot for a raccoon/Yote.
At least it's a true subscription, where you get more product each month, and not just permission to keep using the same product that should be yours by right in perpetuity.
I can remember paying around $400 for a half ten years ago. They average around $1700 in Central Texas now.
Yea, I'll agree that you're getting some decent stuff there. If you're a very consistent eater in terms of what you're making for food, I think the sub makes sense. Still not huge on the push towards the model. Cancelling them is also akin to cancelling a timeshare.
All my relatives on my dad's side were beef farmers. It was a common thing to go and pick up a trailer full of beef and put it in the freezer and live off of it for a year. That, and the occasional supplemental deer and moose, and there was no shortage of beef for a family that was not very well off financially. Man, did I ever NOT appreciate what we had going on back then. "Awww... steaks again? Can't we have beefaroni?" Kids are stupid, yo.
That is more than just a sharp knife. That guy’s skill and precision is peerless, good lord. Like an artist.
I'm so sick of the subscription shit. I have a subscription to an obstacle course gym that I cannot get anyone to properly cancel. I just started cutting my card off on the 6th of every month. Eventually, I'll get a new card so I don't have to worry about it again. Then I have to change the billing info for all the subs I actually want.
That seems like it would be something you'd have to work out individually from whichever farm you're buying from. Most of the places I've dealt with have a specific processor they like to deal with where I pay for my portion of the cow and then pick it up already processed and vacuum sealed.
Yeah I have all the equipment to most everything fairly easy. Cutting out the processing cost is what I’m after. I’ve flirted with the idea of doing small scale deer butchering since you don’t need a license but our farm is on a well and cistern not sure how well that would work out without bigger investments.
Picked up my CPAP today... I'm like a kid before Christmas. I may just go to bed at 8pm tonight just so I get to use it and maybe get a good night sleep for the first time in what seems like forever.
Yeah I got mine Monday and it’s actually been pretty easy to get used to. I’m still getting over covid so still have body fatigue. Probably masking some of the energy benefits. I have had pretty vivid dreams too. Oddly on the the TMI end of the spectrum I’ve also had morning wood each morning which is something I haven’t had with regularity in I don’t know how long. Have to imagine my body is getting better sleep.
