    wait a tick.... are they trying to get it un-stuck AND keep the ship intact and still seaworthy? Or are they just trying to get it out by any means necessary at this point?

    I feel like the distinction is the difference in a matter of weeks and billions of dollars to the global economy.

    I doubt that the people trying to get it unstuck care very much about damaging it beyond wanting it to be able to limp back to Suez without sinking and blocking the channel again. I'd bet that they'd consider it a win if they can get it floated enough to rotate the whole thing up against the bank so that other ships can get past.

    I wonder what would happen if some terrorists targeted that ship as a target of opportunity? The experts from Holland seem to think that it will take weeks to recovery, despite the Egyptian PM(?) saying it'll be fine by the weekend... but if it got seriously fucked up over the next few days, how much longer will that extend the timeline?

    Also, seems that there is a South African ETF that is cleaning up on this shit right now... due to the huge amount of increased traffic it will see as ships divert around the Cape.

    It really is nuts that a single ship could have this kind of impact on global trade.

    Evergreen Marine names the ships based on class. The G (Golden class) are the biggest and all are named Ever G_____ something. Other classes like L, all are L names - Ever Lucky, Ever Lively, etc. - or E class, like Ever Eagle, Ever Envoy, etc and S class, like Ever Smart, Ever Superb. It looks like other Marine companies may use class designations and naming convention. Not sure.
