Never mind it's nice to get out and get some fresh air and stretch a bit after a few hours. Might as well do it at a gas station as a rest stop.
even when I'm just daily driving, I try to never let my truck get below a quarter tank, and if I'm at a 1/3 left and there's a gas station on my side of the road I'll pull in. When we drive to colorado to go skiing, there's a few stretches that push it, so I'll plan ahead and know where my fuel stops are, and contingencies if those are closed.
I'm the opposite. Run the tank down to a couple gallons left. The fewer stops on a long trip, the better. I try not to run it to fumes because I know the fuel provides the cooling for the pump, but I definitely don't stop before it's necessary. Only time I top off is if I don't have enough GPS/data to make sure there's more than one gas station when I'll need it.
When I had my car, that was me. Except I even was practically on fumes at times. I never lived far from work though, so it was a line I could flirt. I realize now it is a habit inherited from my mom who does the same shit. It's like a game. Hubs is opposite, he never lets it go below a quarter tank and for road trips never below 1/3. In the remote areas, we filled up at every opportunity. For traveling through those remote areas we went, there is wisdom in that style. I am learning the error of my ways.
I used to be more like that... but when you're a 50' long vehicle that can't even use some gas stations because you can't pull in and out of them, and you're going super long distances through Canadian redneck places where there's no such thing as 24 hour gas service, I tend to get a bit more studious about the refuels. When I see one I can use, and I'm close to half a tank or less, then I use it. I've literally had to stop and sleep at a rest stop overnight because I was close to running out of gas and none of the local stations were open. As much as you think the "Trans-Canada highway" would be some monster, well-serviced roadway, it's really not. It's no more than a back-road 2 lane street in some places, and I've been stalled for 5 days due to a beaver flooding it out and closing it. It's more than a little sketchy in some places between Ontario and Alberta.
Yeah, but you're a girl. Oil light, gas light, check engine light.. .it's all the same... just keep fucking going, it'll work itself out just fine.
Actually I did overheat bad once and had to drive 5mi an hr to a commercial tire center, who did the simple fix for me out back for free...before work, causing me to be over an hour late, but my employer was nice about it. You might be onto something...
This is the sign they put up on the Trans Fucking Canada highway to say "hey, it's closed... a beaver flooded out some shit and we have to replace a culvert... it'll be 4 or 5 days, we think." The detour route was 23 hours out of the way. 23 hours. Fuck that... I just pulled into a campsite that was 5 miles before this and chilled on the lake for the better part of a week. It was a great place to relax, but man, it really fucked up the itinerary.
And by the way, that is a pic of the actual Trans Canada Highway near the Ontario and Manitoba border. As in the main thoroughfare that transports goods from one part of the country to the other. The only main road that goes East and West. Just NW of Sault Ste Marie, heading to Thunder Bay.
It's an interesting trip, to say the least... but fucking rights I'm stopping for every gas station that is open.
this is my wife and I hate it. Then she’ll ask me to go fill up the car because she thinks that me driving it will somehow improve the mileage enough to make it to the gas station. fucker. Like you passed one on the turn off from the highway to the country road! I’m literally retracing your steps!
wait… y’all have gas stations that close? Like I’ve seen the stores close at 2 am or something, but the pumps will still be active where you can use your card. Truck stops are all 24/7. Is it just the ones in the city that completely close? Like business hours or something?… I’m confused
Yep. First time I did a trans-Canada drive I was amazed that in Sask. and Manitoba there were gas stations, on the Trans Canada Highway, that closed at 8pm, opened back up at 6am. I had some plans to drive through the night for a bit, but had to stop due to running out of gas. Well, not right out, but enough that I wasn't going any further without a refill. The next trip I brought multiple jerry cans, and used them at night.
Duke fans payed crazy amounts to watch coach K's final home game. Just to watch him lose. Hahahaha. https://twitter.com/UNC_Humor/status/1500282334687469573?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet
My cousin in law sent me a five year vertical of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. fuck, it’s been a while since I’ve had stout. Or beer this strong.
Anybody having trouble finding their favorite liquor? Locally, I haven't had a problem, but I've heard two different liquor store guys say the shortages aren't the liquor, but the glassware. The one in Beaver Creek, Co is out of Jack Daniel's due to glass shortage (according to him). A couple years ago, glass recycling was way down, because the market just wasn't there. Bizarre times.
They always have, and always be a living attack ad on themselves. Football has Texas A&M fans, Basketball has Duke. The fans you want to see on fire.
