    That, and I REALLY like binge-drinking perscription cough syrup. Before my first buzz on that stuff, I falsely believed that mere firearm bullets could stop a human being in their tracks.

    Eh, I doubt anything will actually happen of note, maybe some sloshing in the harbors. If I were in Hi, maybe I would go to the second floor if I lived on the beach, but only because it was a 7.7.

    Authorities are kind of stuck in a damned if you do damned if you don't position when it comes to these things, so they err on the side of caution.

    If they don't evacuate/warn then it does happen, people die and blame the authorities.
    If they do evacuate/warn, and it doesn't happen, people start claiming the authorities overreacted an think, "boy I was inconvenienced for nothing" and then ignore the warnings next time.
