Yeah, my coworkers are freaking out about "if I'm even ABLE to get in to work tomorrow". Because of wind and rain? The occasional downed tree or power line? Bitch, please. I will take THIS over THIS any day of the damn week.
I read somewhere that it's starting to snow pretty hard in the Virginias. Have fun with that, if you live there. Nothing like a blizzard, followed by everything freezing. Then flooding from the thaw.
I'm actually excited for this storm. We have 80 pounds of propane, a well full of water, 400 lbs of black angus beef in the freezer, a wood burning fire place and the power to generate electricity. It's too busy we will be busy as all hell if the shit hits the fan like the news people say it will.
http://www.weather.com/news/weather-hur ... w-20121029 Weather channel is doing their damnedest to instill terror too, and they completely blew the snow aspect off. I imagine places that can't deal with snow any other time of the year will have a few days off. I'm trying not to be a dismissive tool about this, but there's a ton of panic on TV right now. Shit is dangerous. People are always going to be hurt during events like this. Most won't because they aren't stupid enough to go jogging during a storm or they know enough to ventilate their generator. Again, flooding is the one thing that really scares the crap out of me.
The "ski resorts" in North Carolina had terrible years last year, because of all the warm weather. They are never, ever open in October. Here's the live webcam from Ski Beech: seen here

I like to think everyone's happy about that. How about that crane dangling in the middle of Manhattan? Im restoring my iPad with the knowledge that the power can cut any minute. Living on the edge baby.
My brother-in-law who lives on Long Island texted us photos of this huge (3' + diameter) tree that came down from the winds at 2:00 this afternoon. Took out part of his sun porch, but a lot of it is now part of his neighbor's kitchen. If the winds were that bad 5 hours ago, folks out there are going to be in for a long and scary night. My mother-in-law, who has Alzheimer's called to see if we were having bad weather, too. I told her, "Yeah, it was 38 when I left for work this morning."
Just saw this subway pic on Facebook. How are y'all doing up there? Well, the news said 250,000 without power. Hope those of y'all in low lying areas got out and are safe.
Welp, shit is getting real in the city. Things are not going to be pretty for the next few days. I'm finding the pictures of Manhattan without electricity really upsetting, I think even more upsetting than the flooding. I haven't been outside yet but seeing it in person is going to be even weirder. It's so damn eerie.
Hey glad to see someone in it is good! Here's some music and.....well, never mind. Maybe just some music for you Audrey. Do you have power?
Talking to my friends, it really depends where you are. The Lower East Side, which people knew was gonna flood, is under a bunch of water and producing crazy pictures. Meanwhile, my old roommate lives at 51st and 10th and they still have power, and are just hanging out, restaurants are still delivering takeout and everything. Tale of two neighborhoods I guess.
Yea, that's usually how it is on the Texas coast too. Places that flood do and places that don't? Don't. I've actually ridden my jet ski in the gulf during a Cat I buildup. You just have to time it right before the beaches disappear and you can't launch your ski.
Fuckers on the East Coast get a 4 day weekend for some rain. A little snowstorm? Most of the week off. Whatever. Just kidding. Not really. Be safe out there fuckers.
Very funny, Gravy. Here's a pic of me riding in the gulf during the summer with almost no wave action. When your in a storm, it's really intense.
My neighborhood is fine - no flooding, no power outages (knock on fucking wood), but I haven't been outside to see if there are any tree-falling damages since we have a relatively lot of them for being in a city and all. I think the main effect for me is that I'm going to be stuck for a few days since it seems like it's going to be a while for the city as a whole to get up and running again. I'm a little worried I did not take my pre-hurricane stockpiling duties seriously enough, though. I think everyone else here is okay, too.
