Re: Re: Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, 5/17 Yeah ambulance rides are insane as well, the wife got hit with a 1200 dollar bill for a 2 mile ride to the hospital. All the did was pick her up and drop her off, no meds were administered.
I know I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I own a bar/restaurant down here in SW Florida and I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys have. We're in a resort area so the majority of our business is from Christmas to the beginning of May, which is why you don't see posts(well, truth be told I guess I'm more of a lurker anyway) or reps from me during that time.
When someone orders a shot, do they actually get one ounce of liquor, or do they get a ketchup cup? And if they get a small shot, how do you sleep at night? Also: because its a bar, do you have to pay extra for beer that comes in special cases that only you can sell, or can you buy any beer to sell?
Where is your place? Naples, Marco island, sanibel? Ft Myers? Sarasota? I love these places to go visit because people generally don't know about them so the crowds are smaller and less douchy. Plus the beaches are the best in the state. Highly underrated in my opinion.
No ketchup cups here. Typically if it's a real shot(mmmm, say, Crown Royal) and not one of those foofoo things(think: kamikaze ) then we pour an once and a half. And, I sleep well, because I spend almost every waking hour here. We have to buy our beer(and liquor) from distributers, so sometimes yes it is more expensive than if you were to run to your local Costco, or Sam's club.
Evidently, Americans have greater syntax proficiency. Perhaps it makes up for our outrageously poor math skills, eh?
Marco Island. My place is called the Sunset Grille. I know the name isn't terribly original, but when you have a sports bar on the beach, it fits. That's part of the reason I stayed here. I moved down here 20 years ago from Cape Cod, and I grew up just outside of NYC. I really fell in love with the quiet you get here most of the time. If I want excitement, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale are only an hour and a half away.
I really love Marco Island. I'm sure you know this but if people want a real gem, they should head over to Sanibel Island. They have building restrictions in place since the 70's so nothing is more than about 2 stories tall. The food on the island is just mediocre but if you want a quiet unadulterated weekend on the beach, that is definitely the place. If you are looking to get some ass, I would go elsewhere.
I definitely agree with you on Sanibel. That place is great to go and relax. As far as looking for ass goes, you hit the nail on the head again, but since I've been married for almost 12 years it's not something I need to worry about.
Anyone remember when Nattie found his sister naked on the internet? Well, I was just perusing deviantart, as I sometimes do, and I think I may have come across the whole set. I can't remember if its really her, but it just looks a bit familiar. The thing is, the person who posted all of these is claiming to be her, posing as an "artist" who took a bunch of self shots. I don't think this is actually true. I guess my question is...did anyone save the pictures he actually posted on here to compare them to? http://badjenny.deviantart.com
Love Marco Island. The Snook Inn is one of my favorite places in the country. Food isn't bad (salad bar blew my mind as a kid), fishtanks built into the walls, and right on the water where you can see dolphins on a regular basis. Love it now for different reasons than I did as a kid, but its a visit I make whenever I'm down there. My grandparents live in Naples and moved down in the late 70s. Shortly thereafter, my Grandpa bought 3 lots next to each other on Marco on one of the streets jutting into Roberts Bay. Never planning to build because he was afraid of hurricanes, he had them as investments. He sold them for a modest profit about 5 years later. If he had held them into the 90s, he would have made a disgusting ROI. Oh well, instead they live in a decent condo in Naples. Or as I like to call it, the worst Spring Break choice I've ever made as a 20 year old. That whole area is great, but if you're looking to party in college and not just relax, that's a mistake. At least my granparents cooked for us every night.
Slappy, is this guy you? Spoiler It must also be flattering to have Don Henley write a song about your bar. Awesome patio you guys have, by the way.
They aren't bad for shitty cell phone pics. I'm reluctant to post them on here because I don't think its right to completely disrespect a board member that way. I'm more interested in bringing this to his attention in case he wants to do something about it. Or contact his sister to let her know.
He was absolutely wasted when he did it originally, and regretted it next day big time. It was still outrageously funny, though.
I've been pretty fucking drunk before. But even in that state of mind, I don't think doing something like that would ever cross my mind.
