Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Can you do us a favor and find a man and give him the tape measure?
Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Shimmered, do that silk ribbon thing. That's all the rage in Toronto for fitness right now.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? It's in Dallas or I would. I'm keen on it...but not enough to drive to Dallas. Fuck that traffic.
Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? No, this... <a class="postlink" href="http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerial_silk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerial_silk</a>
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Yeah, I live on a football field, what about it? OK, so obviously that was inches....this isn't my forte. So, what is that...about 15 feet? Here is a visual since a picture is worth more than my crappy explanation. This is my old 46" TV and this is pretty much the only place that you can put a TV in the room. I have come to terms that it partially blocks that entrance into the next room that never gets used anyway. Spoiler and the man of the house is currently taking a nap while the woman of the house is making the technological decisions. Therefore the need for help.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Man, I can't even post properly. Perhaps I should be napping too. But I really appreciate the advise.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Have a good nap. We will see you in a bit. Just kidding. How big is your current tv? *edit Nevermind. You said 46 inches. I'm obviously failing at reading. In my opinion 55 would be the max you could go in that corner, but I think it could work.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Make sure your HD tv enables you to turn that Truemotion bullshit off if you want. Ive heard some don't but god help me I want to bust every tv in Best Buy when they play a classic movie in that and it looks like it was shot as a soap opera.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? That is awkward. There do exist corner mounts that will let you mount a TV in a corner like that, you might consider one. I have no idea which ones are good or not. That one I linked has shelves, which is something to consider because you'll need a spot to put your cable box or DVD player or whatever. You might be able to mount the TV up a little higher with one of those. Some people I know mount their TVs above the fireplace but it always looks so weird to me. Truf. Honestly I think when it works, it's amazing. However, it doesn't always, and then it's fucking annoying. My buddy's TV had that on and we'd go watch LOST over at his house. The picture would be smooth as silk until the camera moved a little fast and the truemotion algorithm failed, then it was herk-to-the-jerk until it slowed down again.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? I did have one drink at lunch, FYI. That is a 46 inch. I don't want to go any bigger, honestly, because it will be larger than the fireplace and I think that it will end up taking over the room. My husband, obviously, disagrees.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Been doing law school homework all day when I could have been drinking Belgian beers....fuck.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? That's (not) what she said. Have you considered bricking up the fireplace and turning it into like a little TV shrine? Like a Greek Temple-style enclosure with the pillars on the side and the mantle on top? Honestly, compared to the TV, how often do you use the fireplace?
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? The mantel of the fireplace is taller than I am (and I am 5'5") so it would be about 6 feet off the ground. That would be weird. We were going to get a corner TV cabinet thing (I don't really want to mount it on the wall). But yeah, odd room, one side open to the foyer and then that odd opening to the living room, another opening to the kitchen, another is fireplace, another is three really large floor to ceiling windows. Not a lot of options. We could put it in the other corner, but then have no where to put the couch. It gave us fits when we moved in trying to configure the furniture. Ha, I actually joked about this to my husband. We'll just put it right in front of it. And the answer is .... never hardly. But it is good for atmosphere. Plus one day I will buy a bearskin rug and really good video equipment.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Is it supposed to be for sports? I could see it making live broadcast look better but like you said the quicker the movement the more fucked up it looks. It completely kills any composition any film maker had in mind.
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? No clue. It's technologically neat when it's working, and I'm all for higher framerates. I read once when the whole movie industry was going to digital and talking about resolutions and everything that Roger Ebert was advocating for a system called Max48 which filmed and ran movies at 48fps instead of 24 - he said it was like looking through a window. But it's only good if you're 48fps all the time...randomly switching between 30 and 60 or whatever, terrible. But yeah, when it stops working it distracts the shit out of me. What's amazing is that my two friends watching LOST with me were like "I have no idea what you're talking about at all. It looks fine to me." I didn't even know what TrueMotion (or whatever) was, and so I was really confused as to why I was seeing that. Maybe I have some sort of high-frequency insectoid vision to make up for my complete inability to see in three dimensions?
Re: Weekend Drunk Thread, Nov 4-6? Sort of related here is a video blog by Peter Jackson about the production of The Hobbit and how they are doing the 3D shit. It's pretty fucking cool. I haven't been to a 3D movie in a long fucking time, because overall I think it's sort of gimmicky. But I think this will turn out pretty well.
