I just looked at the weather for South Lake Tahoe. Holy shitsnacks. I do not own clothing for those temperatures. Christ.
In my 26 years I've been to Vegas over a dozen times because of hockey tourneys and for the hell of it. Casinos are fun, but all casinos are the same. If thats what you want to do find some place fun and cheap. Bigger mins doesn't mean more fun. In fact smaller table mins means more fun. Shows are expensive but fun to do once in a while. Vegas clubs are like clubs anywhere else, there's usually a sizable cover and they're the same as any other city. If thats your thing then I guess its fun, if not avoid it. Hanging by the pool is what I enjoy most anymore. Sit back, put on the sunscreen, enjoy a mojito and eye candy. Buffets are nice, but the nice one are priced as such. To get your monies worth you really need to eat like theres no tomorrow. The strip clubs are fun, but sometimes less is more. The girls at the Spearmint Rhino are stunning, no doubt, but they are expensive as fuck. I'm talking like $100 for two songs, and its like a crowded frat party in there, its hard to move. Go to a different place, get more attention, spend less money, and stay longer. The girls aren't as hot but after a few drinks really its a wash. Vegas is fun, but its a money pit. If you aren't careful you'll end up spending all your cash at Margaritaville and Cesaers.
I can do that in Texas. For free. Or Hawaii. On less cash. Hmmm. I'll be honest. Vegas isn't appealing except as something that, as an American, I should see. As for being a vacation destination, it's just not in me to enjoy it. I like beaches and fruity drinks and waves crashing and salty air.
1) I'm here alone (well technically a coworker is here too, but not someone I would ever hang out with), and don't want to spend money because I'm saving for a couple of home improvement projects. 2) I'm stuck here until Thursday morning. 3) I don't think that will be a problem. I've been here for a grand total of 3 hours, haven't left my room, and the entire place seems fake. 4) There was some circus looking show that seemed kind of interesting. Probably costs like $100 go see though.
This is what annoys me the most. I'm going to get back from the trip and everyone at work is going to ask me "How much fun did you have in Vegas?!?!" and when I tell them I didn't enjoy it and didn't do much they're all going to act indignant. So many better places to travel to than this place.
I remember having more parents and less 35 year old black friends when I was 13. EDIT: Holy shit, that's the same guy from Rebecca Black's "Friday" video... AMBER ALERT, AMBER ALERT!!!
As an American, you SHOULD see New York. When I say I've never been there and have no real desire to go there (except for the museums) people look at me like I had asked them for an ostrich to blow. Vegas seems like cigar smoking: something that used to be cool, but if you do it now, you're pretty much just in it for the cancer.
This is what we did when I went with a friend. We spent a day driving out to the Hoover Dam and checking out other areas on one day we were there. Then a couple days later we drove out to Death Valley early in the morning and spent a whole day there. We were in Vegas for 6 days but spent 2 of them driving around and it was a lot of fun.
Yeah, Hoover Dam was great as well. Practically gives you vertigo looking over the edge. Trakiel, quit being a sad sack. Get out of your hotel room and go see the sights. Spend a night just walking up and down the strip: watch a couple of the Bellagio fountain performances. See the giant glass flowers inside the Bellagio lobby. Go up in the Eiffel Tower at the Paris hotel. Go see the world's biggest spotlight on top of the Luxor. Wander through the lobbies of these enormous places and see the people. Stop in at the Venetian and see the indoor waterway on the second floor. Ride the roller coaster at New York New York, or the zip line at the old Strip, or the crazy rides at the top of the Stratosphere. Look, Vegas isn't for everyone, and I may never go back, but if you can't have fun your first time there, no matter what the circumstance, then you suck at life. It's just stuff to see, things to experience.
I'll echo what is said above. There is plenty to do and see in Las Vegas that won't cost you. If you are a people watcher, it is a dream place. I'll add to the list, wander around the Cosmopolitan and see all the interesting stuff tucked into every nook and cranny, go down to Fremont Street for the freaks and the light shows.
Love the last little bit when the dog looks back over his shoulder at the kid on the ground. Awesome.
I just checked out Sack's post in the bootie thread. I think it's safe to say that Mrs. Sack has two of the best asses on the Internet.
I work in the hook and bullet business and visit Vegas once a year for SHOT (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoors, Trade) Show. I'm working 16-18 hour days when it's all said and done so it's not the same as a Vegas vacation but I do like getting good and drunk at least one night while I'm out. The rest of the time, a large and comfortable hotel room is so welcomed. I do suggest walking around on the strip. It's something I've had the opportunity to do only a handful of times and it is probably the most enjoyable outside of work thing to do in Vegas. If I can give any advice, poop when you need to poop and don't gamble that you can make it back to your hotel room. It's farther away than you think and then you have to throw away your pants.
If you're working the SHOT Show do you get any time to browse around? What percentage is now "tactical" stuff?
