Egyptian military is setting up field hospitals on the border to receive Egyptian refugees coming out of Libya. Wonder what will happen if Libyan refugees also try to get out.

Mercenaries? Fighter planes turned on their own citizens? Honestly, not even sure what to think about either one, much less the two of them together. Logically, the next step is for another country to invade and try and annex Libya or some of the clans to try and go the way of Sudan and form their own nation. Eight weeks ago, I'd assume this was some kind of impossibility/Hollywood's next big project but at this point I'm not sure if either is really all that absurd.

Oh, wait. Libyan State TV says there were no massacres, no black African mercenaries, and that Tunisians have admitted to fomenting dissent and are behind the demonstrations.

    All is well.

Gadaffi is classically Machiavellian. He retired military members to make sure they don't have time to form plots against him, has foreign mercenaries on his payroll for loyalty purposes, and his personal guards are all women. For what purpose, I do not know.

He isn't going to back down like Mubarak, because he has no place to go, and will probably wind up strung up like Mussolini.

These are the planes which are being used to bomb the civilians, the picture below shows the actual plane which defected to Malta. I now next to nothing about military jets but apparently the rockets are loaded.

The fact that people have so readily turned on unarmed civilians goes a long way to show the inhumanity our species can exhibit.

But, if you look back to Egypt, a handful of asshole out of a crowd of tens or hundreds of thousands could have undone everything they worked for. Murray Hill (NYC neighborhood known for a strip of fratty sports bars) has more fighting than you saw on most nights of the demonstrations in Egypt. That the message for peace was so penetrating, I think demonstrates that our power for good is far superior than our power for evil.

Good has to win every single time. Evil only has to win once. We should recognize a victory for good for what it truly is, thousands of individual victories over evil.

Not about to read through 40 pages so sorry if this has been brought up already, but when are all the western bleeding hearts going to start up their little Facebook groups supporting the people of Libya and Iran?? I guess people from countries that don't have famous tourist attractions and whose respective brutal authoritarian regimes happen to be hostile to the US and Israel don't deserve democracy.

Gadafi put out another address on Libyan State TV. There's not a transcript up yet, but there are a few blurbs here:

    <a class="postlink" href="http://blogs.aljazeera.net/africa/2011/02/22/live-blog-libya-feb-22" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://blogs.aljazeera.net/africa/2011/ ... bya-feb-22</a>

"The unity of China was more important than the people of Tiananmen Square."

The speech is pretty rambling and confused. Somewhat similar to Mubarak in tone, talking about how much he's done for his country and they should look up to him like a hero.

Libyan interior minister has resigned, urges the military to join the protesters. And not "join" in the military sense; he meant support them.

Is it wrong that I await this moment eagerly? I've tried to maintain a levelheaded point of view about this whole protest movement, but Libya is different from the rest of them. The man deserves to die for what he's done, and his people deserve their revenge.
