I haven't looked through every one of the pages in this thread, so I apologize if I've given a repeat. I was watching the show 'Intervention' on 'A&E' earlier this year. Fantastic show, by the way. So, this one episode profiled a rock artist, near my age, on crystal meth and apparently gone from life. It happened to be Travis Meeks from 'Days of the New'. I wasn't piercing my eyebrow, wearing flannel and leather or living anywhere near Courtney Love, but I did turn my radio on during the '90's. After I saw that 'Intervention' episode, I listened to some 'Days of the New'. I remembered them. This kid, as a teenager, has a wonderfully powerful voice, fantastic presence, and unfortunately, maybe too much money and control. The talent here is amazing to me. binx
Weakerthans. Their lead singer knows me too well now days. That's what happens when one of his good friends is my neighbour, and I'm at too many Weakerthans concerts.
You can't mention the mountain goats without mentioning No Children. This song is so bitter, and so mean, and so great.
I finally got around to listening to Iron Maiden's new album, "The Final Frontier". Quality stuff, with lots of good, long 8+ minute songs. Nothing amazing, with the exception of this track; It reminded me a lot of various things of various Arthurian legend, once I recalled what the hell "Avalon" was supposed to be. Everything from a cartoon in my youth, the re-tellings of the Arthurian legend by modern writers, Sir Walter Raleigh's story "Mort de Arthur", the Middle English Christian morality tale "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight", Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court", to John Boorman's early 80's film "Excalibur". Lot of memories and nostalgia from a song.
