They played this live at the Big Day Out and the fire show was fucking spectacular. Set one of his roadies on fire too. These guys were a massive surprise live. The lead has a wicked set of lungs.
Apparently there is a progressive metal band called "Shaolin Death Squad" that released a concept album called "Five Deadly Venoms", which goes through all the characters and events of the classic Shaw Brothers Hong Kong kung fu film. It's like they made an album specifically for me;
Sea Change I absolutely adore music and it is a big part of my life. One of my favorite artists is Beck; it is nice to have someone as eclectic and varied as him next to stalwarts like Sabbath and Zeppelin. One of his finest albums is without a doubt Sea Change, and it is a record which I have admired for a while now. I had always deeply enjoyed the aural textures of the album, like the sparkly acoustic guitars, swooshy space synths and perfect string arrangements. The lyrics are great, but I had never really given much thought to them beyond the fact that the words just sounded really nice; the melodies were the focus of my attention. However, this all changed when I broke up with my girlfriend recently (we had been together for nearly six years and were living together). Suddenly, the album resonated with me much more strongly, and I realized it was because this was one of the most poignant albums about heartbreak I had ever heard. Beck wrote this album after he had broken up with his girlfriend (with whom he had been together for several years), and the songs basically depict every emotion you feel after a break-up that isn`t nasty or vitriolic, but rather a tragic agreement, a conscious decision where one selected the lesser of two evils and that negatives of being together outweighed the positives. Sometimes people love each other deeply, but some parts of the relationship just don`t feel right. For those of you who read Assholes Finish First, Tucker talked about this in regards to his relationship with the Nurse, and even though many are loathe to give the man credit for insights into love, after the break-up I completely understood what he meant. As trite as it is to say, Beck had taken the pulse of the broken heart and succinctly described the many conlicting emotions going through your head. In “The Golden Age”, Beck sings about the lies you tell yourself, and to your girl, to simply get over the shock of losing someone so close to you. A new era of possibilities is upon us: just get on the open road of life and let the new experiences suddenly open to you dull the pain. When two people share a life together and in many respects become one, there is a certain danger of losing yourself and part of your identity. To then relieve your shoulders of the weight of someone else`s world is an immense relief. Howerer, the pain of loss is there still, and on the inside...well: “These days, I barely get by I don`t even try” The freedom you tell your girl to enjoy is of meager comfort and the promises of emotional convalescence are almost intangible: “It`s a treacherous road With a desolated view There`s distant lights But here they`re far and few” In “Guess I`m Doing Fine”, Beck describes the loneliness, because as much as your friends love you and care for you, when they, or your ex-girl, ask how you`re doing, how do you reply that a big part of your soul is empty? The sarcasm is dark: “It`s only lies that I`m living It`s only tears that I`m crying It`s only you that I`m losing Guess I`m doing fine” Now, the point of this post was not to get all depressive. The message is that while I have been touched by the many songs that I love in many different respects over the years, this is the first time that something happened in my life that so profoundly affected how I view a piece of art. It`s quite the powerful experience. I guess that`s part of maturing in life. And this of course is not the only example, but seeing as this is such a great album I thought I would post this here. EDIT: Whoa, ignore the incredibly cheesy video. EDIT: Hm, I guess he spent all his creativity on the songs.
Remember awhile back when I complained about that horrible Jimmy Ray song that popped into my head and wouldn't leave? Well, it's happened again and this time it is arguably worse. One thing about it - posting these monstrosities here tends to remove the song from my mind, so here you go. Enjoy the suck.
Decent 90s punk. Is it super-unique, original, and skilled? Fuck no, but it's damn good to listen to, so fuck the music snobs.
The audio on these is pretty shitty, so I encourage you to find these elsewhere. Grooveshark has them.
