I owned one of these back when, had a T-10 4-speed. Neat little car - in a straight line. That thing had worse under steer than most FWD cars. Unfortunately, that was before I started learning about suspension tuning so I had no idea how to improve it. Look what Aaron (Gas Monkey Garage - bearded division) did to his for his run up Pikes Peak.
Alex Lifeson has announced the end of Rush. No final album, no final tour. They’re just done. I guess.
Not surprising... Neil Peart has had some serious health issues and there's no way he would have been able to do another tour.
A lesser man would be upset at passing on the chance to see them during their last tour.................
It’s not like they didn’t put in work. Peart has been pushing himself for a long time, and very few who have ever lived play at the difficulty level he does.
It's not like this came as any surprise, either... it was first announced back in 2015: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/new...is_upcoming_rush_tour_will_be_their_last.html
I never knew about the announcement. I never considered myself a big fan but my respect for them as musicians is through the roof. Especially Lifeson, one of my favourite guitarists. They truly are one of the best-sounding bands live.
I could talk about Rush all day, but I'll try not to clog up the thread. But, yeah. Third behind the Beatles and Rolling Stones for most consecutive Gold or Platinum albums by a rock band. +40 year career producing new music (19 studio albums) and touring, with no lineup changes beginning with the tour supporting the first album. Twice in the 20 times I saw them live was from the front row, and a couple others in the first few rows. Watching Geddy sing, play keyboards and bass foot pedals simultaneously was always a treat. Their sense of humor and genuine friendship with each other makes being a fan fun and was definitely key to their longevity. I know their music isn't for everyone, or Geddy's voice annoys people or whatever, but you can't deny their pure musical talent, especially if you ever saw them live. Geddy and Alex are both still active in the music world, guesting or producing, and they live near each other in Toronto. They may be done, but I wouldn't bet any large amount of money on never seeing them as Rush again - it may be some one-off tour, or short residency, or something. And, I'm not saying that out of denial - I've seen them live, plenty, I can still listen to all their music, I got a chance to meet Alex and Geddy, they're in the Rock Hall - I am satisfied if they never play as Rush again. I just say that, because things have a way of changing, and until they physically can't, they'll all keep playing music. As far as Peart pushing himself . . . yes, he has been very open and honest in his books and other writings about not enjoying the grind of the tour. But, he also has a young daughter (and 2nd wife) that he wants to be home with. (He tragically lost another daughter and his first wife within a year of each other in the late 90's.)
If you haven't read any of Neil Peart's books (not looking at you, @Rush-O-Matic) I highly recommend them. Especially Ghost Rider, which chronicles his handling of losing his daughter and wife within months of each other. http://www.neilpeart.net/index.php/books/
XFL is back, baby! HE HATE ME! You guys are probably all too young to remember that. Whatever. Be on the lookout for Tebow, Manziel, Kaepernick and RG3 to be starting QBs. Hell, maybe Mike Vick . . .
It’s gonna be a right wing shitshow. Players will be required to stand for the anthem (I don’t care if they do or don’t, but I hate the forced patrioticism shit). No one with a criminal record will be allowed to play, which rules out basically every fun player ever. I wanna see mandatory roughing the passer attempts on every play. You score a touchdown then every player on the defense has to chug a beer. Nude cheerleaders. Winning QB gets to sleep with the losing QBs wife for a night.
XFL? OH YEAH SUMMER FOOTBALL BABY!!!! Let’s get some skank cheerleaders and fifth-rate players the Arena League wouldn’t touch and start a football league. Why would you resurrect the failure of all failures in sports? I would sooner bring back the fucking USFL before that league.
I fucking LOVED the XFL... not for the game play, but for the whole "you get paid for results" thing.
Think of how the NBA would be turned on it’s head if they took that approach. Would LeBron really be the most valuable player anymore? Who would be the highest paid? There would be a mutiny against any coach who wanted to rest players. Personally, I wish all professional leagues took this approach. Single best way to immediately improve gameplay.
