Thanks for the input everyone. As for the unfortunate timing, it was either this August or never. It's not ideal, but it has to be better than Kansas.
In Feb/March next year the GF and I are planning a trip that currently breaks down like this - 1 week in Chile (based in Santiago). 2 weeks in Bolivia (including a tour from La Paz down to the salt flats and back). 4 weeks travelling overland from La Paz to Lima, Peru via Machu Pichu. 1 week somewhere else, possibly Medellin in Colombia or an island somewhere in the Caribbean. Does anyone have any general advice, or any suggestions for must sees/must dos? Unfortunately the Galapagos are likely out due to budget constraints. I'd be happy for the week at the end to be a nice Caribbean holiday somewhere if it's an easy jump from Lima to there to London which is our eventual destination. If there's anything that would fit in with this rough itinerary that we've missed (Argentina, Paraguay, Western Brazil, Ecuador?) then I'd love to hear it.
My wife and I would like to do a trip the last week of December. She's a teacher so that time will be the only time we can use my vacation days in bulk before I lose them. We want to stay somewhere that will be plenty warm at that time and not pay an arm and leg, so we are probably looking at all-inclusive resorts between the Gulf Coast and the equator. Obviously we would want someplace that will be a lot of fun on New Year's Eve and that might offer the opportunity to do some sight-seeing. Suggestions?
Heading to Montreal for a bachelor party in a few weeks. None of us have ever been. Any bars/clubs we should check out? Anything to avoid?
Every guy I know who's been has said you have to checkout Supersex if you go, but I cannot personally confirm that. Once you find the bar district(s) it's the type if place where you can explore until you find your idea of a good time.
La Banquisse for poutine. Accept no substitutes. I'm going to Jackson Hole for a week or so starting tomorrow. Unfortunately I'll be too busy doing such bullshit as "writing a huge fucking exam" to get out to the mountains much, but any advice on what to do in town would be welcome.
I'm spending 2 weeks in Patong, Phuket during November. Accommodation already settled. If anyone has any tips (generally speaking/nightlife/eating/negotiation etc) that would be greatly appreciated
Looking for airline advice; FutureWife and I are heading to the Caribbean in April. Since it will be our honeymoon, I wanted to fly First Class. Unfortunately that will run us about $5k for two round trip tickets. Out of our range. So now I'm looking for the airline that has a Business Class or anything with more leg room. I'm 6'2" 220lbs and sitting in an economy seat for 5-6 hours fucking sucks. I don't really care for the frilly shit in First Class, I just want the leg room. Any help? Thanks
If you fly United you can upgrade to Economy Plus. It is pretty cheap compared to first class. It is the same seat width, but you get about 5 extra inches in front of you. All airlines have exit row seating which will give you plenty of leg room. Most airlines have different rules for getting those seats.
Seats in an exit row will typically have more leg room. You can research seats by airline and type of aircraft on Seatguru.com. Keep in mind, seating layout is dependent on the airline, so two of the same type aircraft can have wildly different seating arrangements.
I'm headed to Detroit this weekend. Anyone have any recommendations on restaurants, neighborhoods/districts, bars, or anything else must-see?

Ended up settling on Chile, Bolivia and Peru (incl Iquitos) with three days in Toronto (first trip to Canada) on the way through to London. So Canada, eh. Other than eating poutine and going to the hall of fame what should I do in Toronto? Was keen on getting down Niagara, but the general consensus is that it's just a massive tourist trap?
If you go to the theatre, Toronto has the biggest acts in Canada. If you have time the Royal Ontario Museum is downtown and a good look. There's a lot of things I'm out of touch with because I don't go that often. Yonge & Dundas Square is the city's Piccadily Circus-Times Square hybrid, a decent photo op at night and Three Brewers is I think one block south for great draft.
Forgot to mention we bumped the trip back a few months to account for the wet season in parts of South America so will be in Toronto in early June. If there are any extremely optimistic Leafs fans out there, I might be able to see them then.
For your best chance of seeing them, hit up shitty dive bars, depression therapy waiting rooms, and suicide support groups.
So I'm taking a few weeks and going to Australia. I cheaped out and bought economy class flights, because $2500 is better than $8000 to be on the same plane. I'm thinking of buying a pass to the international lounges. Obviously, each airline has their own lounge and some of the international passes may not have access to the greatest lounges. Any suggestions? Also, it's primarily United flights. I know United has lounges, but google is failing me about the rate for a day pass access to one.
Im currently planning my honeymoon at the moment and we are looking to spend 6 weeks in America starting late November/start of December. Plan at this stage is: - Fly into LA - Drive Pacific Coast highway to San Fran (4 days) - Train to Colorado (will spend a few days in Denver to meet with a family member) (3 Days) - Fly to Texas - Drive around Texas (thinking Dallas ---> Austin ---> San Antonio) (6 Days) - Fly to New Orleans (2-3 Days) - Drive from New Orleans to Washington DC (7 days) - Christmas in Washington DC (3 days) - Train to New York - NYE in New York (5 days) - Train to Boston (3 Days) - Train/Fly to Chicago (3 Days) - Fly back to LA for flight home Been planning shit to do with an app called 'Roadtrippers' which is pretty cool but any advice from peeps here would be appreciated. In particular the drive up from New Orleans to DC is a bit sketchy on things to do/see at the moment so any advice on routes to take and specific towns/places to go along the way would be awesome. EDIT: I fucking love shooting and I have permission to go to one gun range from the fiance while we are there, so if anyone can recommend a good range to go to that'd be awesome as well. I know im travelling through the right part of the country for this sort of thing.
